Grundlagen und Technik der Brennstoffzellen (Principles and Technology of Fuel Cells)

Herr Prof. Dr.-Ing. Detlef Stolten
holds the chair for Fuel Cells at RWTH Aachen University.

The offered course deals with the conversion of renewable and fossil energy sources for use in fuel cells in portable, stationary, and mobile applications. The process and system engineering considerations include high temperature and low temperature fuel cells as well as the generation of fuel cell specific gases. These aspects are accompanied by basic physical-chemical considerations. System-analytical studies of energy process engineering, including cost estimates, serve to provide a holistic view with future market considerations. On average, nearly 50 students attend the lectures and exercises offered in the winter semester. Within the framework of the existing cooperation with the Research Center Jülich, the chair offers students the opportunity to collaborate by writing student research projects and diploma theses as well as through project-related activities as scientific assistants.
